Aloo Chana Subzi / Chana Aloo Subzi / Aloo Chana / Potato & Chickpeas Cooked in Tangy Tomato Sauce – Sidedish for Roti or Rice (No Onion / No Garlic – Jain Style)


Potatoes and Chana are my favorite one..So think about this dish, it is my absolute favorite one..This has some unusual flavours going through it. I think its from the amchoor and kasuri methi leaves..This has a absolute northindian flavour to it..And BTW I love Northindian foods..You can see a whole lot of recipes recipes right here..


This can be served with plain white rice, roti or puri..My favorite is with rice..And in the picture, if you are wondering, what is the green dish in the side. It is spinach masiyal.. I have posted the recipe of it in my other blog..Please check it here..

Ingrediants:

Potato -  2 large cubed and cooked
Channa / Velai Konda kadalai / Chickpeas – 1 cups cooked
Tomato – 3 large pureed
Chilli powder – 1 tsp
Black Pepper Powder – 1 tsp
Amchoor Powder / Dry Mango Powder – 2 tsp
Garam Masala Powder – 1 tsp
Turmeric Powder / Manjal Podi -1 tsp
Coriander Powder / Malli Podi -1 tblspn
Sugar – 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Kasuri Methi Leaves / Dried Fenugreek Leaves – 1 tblspn
Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam – 1 tsp
Oil- 1 tblspn

Method:

Heat 1 tblspn oil in a kadai. Add cumin and allow it to splatter.

Add tomato puree and cook for 5 mins till it gets cooked.

Add in chilli, garam masala, coriander, amchoor, turmeric,pepper powders and mix well.

Add in salt and sugar and mix well. Add kasuri methi leaves and mix well.

Pour enough water and add cooked chana and potatoes and mix well.

Cover and cook on a very low heat for 15 mins till everything gets united.

Serve hot with rice or roti.

add coriander and turmeric

salt
kasuri methi leaves
and mix well
I added some sugar too
add water
and mix well
add cooked channa
cooked potatoes
and mix well
Let it come to a boil
cover and simmer
till it gets dry
Serve
Taste great with rice..

  2. Tempting and Yummy curry ..Loved all ur prev. 4 recps . In masala chai recp., you have used ginger along with the skin ...Have heard that ginger skin is not good for health..so try to chop the skin of ginger and use it ...

  4. i wonder if u and i r having some telepathy. hehe i just made normal chana today but yes it was with onion and garlic. i was thinking shud i also add kasuri methi or not but didnt do in end. and here you come up with this.. what a telepathic connection

  27. Garam masala should be added just before the end say 2 mins before u r done with the curry. Only then it brings nice aroma out of it.give it a try
