How to Clean Yam Ordinary / Karunai Kizhangu ( How to Remove Itchiness from Yam Ordinary )


I love making pulikulambu or theyal with this beautiful yam. But the one thing that puts me off is the iching it causes on the throat. I learned this trick from my mum and she told me if you add tamarind while cooking the yam, it removes the itching it creates on the throat. I followed that step and it really worked. So try this way to clean yam and i will be posting a wonderful gravy with this tomorrow.

Homemade Panch Phoron Spice Mix - A Bengali Five Spice Mix


I came across this spice mix few weeks back and i really want to give this a try. I thought of using this in few of my dishes and was very eager to check how this would turn out. I made myself a bottle of it and used in a couple of recipes, my goodness the results were amazing. They gave a very unique aroma and flavour to those dishes. I never imagined that this humble spice mix will give such a amazing flavour to those recipes.

There is nothing comforting for me than my mum's paruppu urundai kulambu. I have my version of it here, but i love this pone better than that because of its simplicity. It doesn't need cooking the dumplings separately or something like that, everything is done in one pot, that is the beauty of this dish.

I have been consuming a lot of sprouts recently. I love how this simple bean become much more nutritious when they are sprouted. I have been adding it to salads, stir fries. Specially i love it with my fruit salad, i will post that tomorrow..Making sprouts at home is not at all a big deal..It is so easy to make, i have been buying sprouts from shop all these days. But when i discovered the art of making it at home, i never go back to the supermarket stuff. You can sprouts any whole bean of your choice. You can consume these sprouted beans even raw or in salads. They are so protein rich substance to add to your diet.

Orange Marmalade Cake



One fine day, i decided to bake a lovely orange marmalade cake which i found in sanjeev kapoor's cookbook. I ran into the store and bought a jar of orange marmalade and came home happily to bake this goodness. I made the batter patiently, took step by step picture of it..Poured the batter into the cake tin and blessed the tin and put that into the oven. Then i waited for a hard 45 mins, when i opened the oven door to check the cake, I smelled the best aroma of my life, the cake was beautifully baked and everything was coming together so well...

Todays recipe is gonna be a yummy pumpkin curry. Before that i have to tell you this little secret of mine. When i was little, pumpkin is a hated veggie of mine. I never used to touch it, i dont know why. But i hated it a lot. After being a food blogger and got married, i started cooking and consuming a lot of it. I am realizing the real taste of pumpkin right now. Now it has become one of my favorite veggie and i cooking once a week with it.

If you ask me what is the staple stuff which i keep in my fridge all time. The answer is Bread and Eggs. If i have both of these, i know i can whip up anything i want in any minute. 

When i have no time on my hand to do any fancy breakfast. The first choice is to make some buttery toast and some buttery scrambled eggs or i will make some french toast or some toast with pouched eggs.
