Dark Chocolate Mousse Recipe / Chocolate Mousse Recipe without Eggs

May 17th is our third year anniversary. I thought of making a special cake to celebrate it, immediately the cake which came to my mind is a rich chocolate mousse cake. I have been wanting to try that cake for quite a long time. So i took this opportunity to up that up. And guess what it turned out to be a huge success. The cake turned out to be fudgy, chocolaty and totally yummy.

The first step in making the cake is to make a batch of a delicious fluffy chocolate mousse. I have already shared a chocolate mousse recipe with marshmallows in this blog. So i wanted to try a simple version of it and this is that.

This recipe is a very basic one, it needs just chocolate and cream and nothing else. When i took a mouthful of this delicious mousse it was spot on..Hope you give this a try and let me know how it turns out for you..

Preparation Time : 10 mins
Cooking Time : 5 mins
Makes : 2 to 4 glasses


Dark Chocolate Chips - 1.5 cup
Sugar - 2 tblspn
Water - 4 tblspn
Instant Coffee Powder - 1/2 tsp
Whipping Cream - 1 cup

(My 1 cup measures 240 ml)


Take water, sugar and coffee powder in a sauce pan, heat till the sugar is melted and the water comes to a boil.

Add in chocolate chips and heat it on a very low flame till the chocolate is completely melted.

Now pour this mix into a bowl and cool it completely.

Take cream in a bowl and use a electric beater to whip this till it gets thick and forms soft peaks.

Now fold this cream into the chocolate very gently.

Once everything is mixed up well.

Spoon this into serving glasses and chill in the fridge for 2 hours.

Serve cold.


Take your ingredients

First take water in a sauce pan

add in sugar

add in coffee powder

heat till the sugar and coffee is melted and water is hot

add in chocolate chips

keep mixing them on low heat til the chocolate is melted

whisk till chocolate is melted

now the chocolate is all melted

Pour it into a bowl

Leave them to cool

In the mean time, take whipping cream in a bowl,
 i used frozen cool whip

whip them till they thickens

Now the chocolate mix is cooled

add in cream 

fold gently

keep mixing

now everything is beautifully mixed up

Take your serving glasses

Spoon the mousse in

top with some chocolate sprinkles

Chill Before serving

    I used the same measurements you mentioned and the whipped cream was frozen too... but the mousse appeared quite darker than yours in the pics... it wasnt as smooth as seen too.. the taste was awesome though. Made it twice and both the times it was dark and looked a little different. like crumbs... do you know why did that happen both times?

  12. @Anonymous i think u have over whipped the cream so it has turned grainy. next time dont opverwhip, the cream should have soft peaks

  13. Thnks Aarthi will try it next time. I always have a trouble in whipping the cream. the first time i tried your black forest cake i overwhipped and it seperated to butter!!!! I did do a lot of research about whipping just to be sure i dont mess up this time.. But guess my research wasnt good enuf!!! :D

    i used crusty n crumbs whipping powder... I used it in a blender.. It became soft but not stiff. I added it to d chocmix and now its all watery.. :(
    what do i do now

    Is there any some brands of whipping cream that you can recommend? At least 2-3 options would make it really easy to select what is readily available in the market.
