Best BBQ Pits and Eateries of the South

Aside from the hospitality, one thing the South is known for is it’s delicious barbecue. No matter where you travel in the South, you’ll find no shortage of restaurants serving classic favorites, decades-old family recipes, and new variations of traditional dishes. In this article, we’ll share some of the best BBQ pits and eateries of the South, so you know where to stop along the way.

    Big Bob Gibson BBQ

It’s one thing to tell people you have good food but it’s quite another to showcase awards and honors from respectable food critics praising your dishes. You’ll find that Big Bob Gibson BBQ in Decatur, Alabama certainly fits the latter. Walk into the restaurant and you’ll see trophies lining the walls from all sorts of barbecue and food contests. The kitchen is run by award-winning head chef Chris Lilly and they’ve earned every trophy and plaque decorating the walls.

    Old Hickory BBQ

It’s a matter of family pride at Old Hickory BBQ in Owensboro, Kentucky. This family-run establishment has been around for five generations. Over the years, the family has perfected their barbecue recipes and their loyal customers savor every dish.

    Central BBQ

Central BBQ has been pleasing customers around Memphis, Tennessee since it was founded in 2002. You’ll find all the fan favorites from pulled pork to racks of ribs that cover the entire plate, including selections of chicken and turkey barbecue. Hungry tourists can find Central BBQ locations in Memphis and Nashville.

    Choo Choo BBQ

If you’re looking for a tasty meal without spending a fortune, then check out Choo Choo BBQ in Chattanooga on the Georgia-Tennessee line. You’ll find a full menu with your favorite barbecue meats and sides for very affordable prices. This is a great place to bring the whole family because the wait staff is always welcoming and personable.

After dining here, you might even consider relocating to the area. Search Knoxville Real Estate to find a home that fits your needs.

    Franklin Barbecue

The next time you’re in Austin, Texas you’ll have to make a point to stop by Franklin Barbecue for a plate of some of the most mouth-watering food you’ll ever experience. Owner and fire master Aaron Franklin takes deep pride in how his food is prepared and served to his loyal customers. They respond, in kind, by lining up hours before the eatery opens just to make sure

they place their order before the food runs out. If you’re planning on eating at Franklin Barbecue, you’ll want to wake up extra early to beat the line.

    Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que

Another much loved joint that usually has people lined up outside is Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que in Kansas City, Missouri. The restaurant is actually run in the old service bays of a gas station. But don’t let that fool you. The food is some of the best barbecue you could ask for, which is exactly why you’ll usually see people waiting in line eager to place their order.

I'm going to do whatever it takes to serve a tasty turkey for Thanksgiving this year. The last couple I made turned out real dry and tough. I don't know why I've had such a difficult time of it. This year is gonna be the one!
