Chicken in Tomato Gravy Recipe

This is a simple tomato based chicken curry..It is so easy to make..You dont have to chop lots of onions for this, it is purely a tomato based curry. I made a spiced tomato puree and cooked seared chicken in this…It tasted so yummy. I served it with parota..But it goes extremely well with pulav, naan as well..

Preparation Time : 10 mins
Cooking Time : 30 to 40 mins
Serves: 3 

Ingredients:

Oil – 1 tblspn + 1 tblspn
Kasuri Methi Leaves – 1 tsp
Coriander Leaves a handful finely chopped
Water around 1.5 cup


For Chicken:
Skinless Chicken Breast – 1 large cubed
Yogurt / Curd – 2 tblspn
Chilli powder – 1 tsp
Cumin Powder / Jeera Powder – 1 tsp
Garam Masala Powder – 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Ginger Garlic Paste – 1 tsp
Lemon Juice – 1 tsp


For Puree:
Tomatoes – 3 large chopped
Chilli powder – 1 tsp
Cumin Powder / Jeera Powder – 1 tsp
Garam Masala Powder – 1 tsp
Turmeric Powder / Manjal Podi – 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Ginger Garlic Paste – 1 tsp

Sugar – 2 tsp



Method:

Mix all the ingredients for chicken and set aside.

Take all ingredients given for puree and puree smoothly.

Now heat 1 tblspn of oil in a pan, add in pureed masala and cook till oil separates and it gets thick and dried up.

Now add in water and bring it to a boil.

Meanwhile in another pan, add in 1 tblspn of oil and add in chicken and stir fry them for 5 mins till it is half cooked.

Now add this to the boiling gravy and cover and simmer for 8 to 10 mins till oil floats on top.

Now add in kasuri methi leaves and coriander leaves. Mix well.

Serve with a dollop of cream.


Pictorial:
First lets make the sauce..Take tomatoes in a blender
Add in ginger garlic paste
Add in chilli powder
Add in turmeric powder
Add in cumin powder
Add in sugar
add in salt
Add in garam masala powder
Once everything is added in
Puree this till smooth..Set aside
Now take some boneless chicken breast..Cube it
Add in chilli powder, cumin powder, garam masala, salt, ginger garlic paste
Add in yogurt
Add in little lemon juice and mix well..Set aside
Now heat oil in a pan
Add in pureed masala
Mix well
Now you have cook this till the tomato dries up
Now it is well cooked and dried and thickened up
Pour in water
Mix well and keep cooking till oil separates
Now the sauce is done
Now in another pan, heat some oil and add in chicken
Saute them in oil
Cook till the chicken is half cooked
Add in chicken
Mix well
Cover and simmer for few mins till chicken is done
Now chicken is cooked
Add in kasuri methi leaves
Mix well
Serve with parota
