This chicken curry is a no coconut version. It has dal and potataoes to it, this will make them thick and yummy. Try this healthy version of this curry and let me know how it turn out..
Preparation Time : 10 mins
Cooking Time : 45 mins
Serves : 3 to 4
Ingredients:
Chicken – 1/2 kg bone in
Onion -1 large chopped finely
Green Chilli – 2 slit
Potatoes – 1 large peeled and cubed
Masoor Dal – 1/2 cup
Tomatoes – 2 medium size chopped finely
Curry leaves – 1 sprig
Cumin Seeds – 1 tsp
Chilli powder – 2 tsp
Turmeric Powder / Manjal Podi – 1 tsp
Coriander powder / Malli Podi – 1 tblspn
Garam Masala Powder – 1 tblspn
Cumin Powder / Jeera podi – 1 tsp
Coriander Leaves for garnishing
Lemon Juice – 1 tblspn
Method:
Heat oil in a kadai. Add in cumin, let it sizzle.Add in onions, green chillies, salt. Saute till it gets nice and golden.
Now add in all spice powder and curry leaves and give a quick toss.
Now add the tomatoes and mix well.
Add in chicken, potatoes, dal and mix well. Pour some water and bring it to a boil.
Cover and simmer. Cook for 35 to 40 mins.
Now add in some lemon juice and coriander leaves. Mix well and serve.
What a creative idea….chicken and dhal. I tried it today and came out very well. BTW I'm pregnant and in my 34th week. This reipe is awesome to my taste buds. Thanks….

Add to the "masala , a stick of cinnamon and grated ginger and garlic. Use oil which is 1/2 vegetal and 1/2 coconut. . All these ingredients mentioned in my post , brings the dish to the next level 🙂 Try it out and you will not be disappointed.

just wondering, how do you solve the problem of cooking potatoes, dal and fresh tomatoes at the same time? My experience with this recipe was not very good. Even after 1 hour of soft simmering, the potatoes and dal were not completely soft, since tomato acidity is obviously inhibiting the cooking process…
You can cut the potatoes little smaller pieces. I am sure 1 hour would have cooked the potatoes and dal. Which dal did you use?
