We make puttu often in my house, most of the time it is rice based one. But i love my ragi puttu and wheat puttu. I bought a packet of broken corn recently and looking for recipes to try it out. I made cornmeal idli from it and this is my second recipe. I have few more left in that, i am planning to make upma with it.

The cool thing about this recipe is, not only it taste great but i love to look at the bright yellow colour of it. It will be kids favourite too. You can have it with chana curry or boiled green gram & papadum or my all time favourite ripe banana, sugar and ghee.

Hope you will give this a try and let me know how it turns out for you.

    Preparation Time : 10 mins
    Cooking Time : 15 to 20 mins
    Serves : 4

    Ingredients:

Corn Meal / Broken Corn -  1 cup
Rice Flour / Arisi Mavu - 1 cup
Fresh Coconut - 1 cup grated
    Salt to taste
    Sugar - 1 tblspn
Warm Water - ½ cup to ¾ cup

    Method:

If you are using cornmeal then you dont have to powder it. If you are using broken corn, then you have to powder it.

Now take that in a bowl, add in rice flour, salt, sugar and mix well.

Sprinkle in some warm water and keep rubbing so it becomes like a coarse crumbs.

Now take your puttu funnel. Place the holed disc inside it, and put coconut layer, then cornmeal layer. Continue this till top and finish with coconut layer.

Now put this on puttu pot and steam for 15 to 20 mins.

Now remove it carefully and serve hot with ghee, banana and sugar
