Crumbed Chicken Fry / Indian Style Breadcrumbed Fried Chicken

I stay away from fried chicken for most of the time. But sometimes i love to go naughty and crave for a good fried chicken. This breadcrumbed chicken was in my mind for a very long time. One day i was watching chef damodaran’s cooking videos, at that time i came across this recipe, which made me to try it immediately.

The one variation which i made to the recipe is i added some buttermilk instead of the egg. But you could add an egg in this which helps in binding the ingredients. Fry the chicken in medium heat so it gets cooked from inside too. This chicken stays crispy for  a very long time and my sister loved it so much.Hope you will try this and let me know how it turned out.

Preparation Time : 10 mins
Marinate Time : 30 mins
Cooking Time : 20 to 25 mins
Makes : 4 fried drumsticks
Recipe Source: Chef Damu

Ingredients:

Chicken Drumsticks – 4
Breadcrumbs – 2 cups
Oil for Deep frying

For Marinate:
Buttermilk – 1 cup or 1 Egg
Chilli Powder – 1 tsp
Pepper Powder – 1 tsp
Cumin Powder – 1 tsp
Lemon Juice – 2 tblspn
Salt to taste

Method:

Take buttermilk in a bowl and add all the marinate ingredients. Mix well.

Add the drumsticks in this and mix well. Let this marinate for 30 mins.

Now take breadcrumbs in a bowl. Take each drumsticks and coat them with breadcrumbs.

Arrange this on a rack and leave it for 5 to 10 mins so it gets dry and the coating sticks to the chicken.

Now heat oil for deep frying. When it is hot, drop the chicken and fry on a medium heat for 10 mins on each side. Flip over and cook on other side too.

Dont fry on a high heat, because then the outer will get over browned, but interior will be raw. So always fry on a low to medium heat.

When it is cooked drain on a paper towel.

Serve with ketchup or mayo.

I made this on Friday. I used both drumsticks and breast cut into long strips. I tried one piece after frying and the chicken wasn't particularly spicy – maybe it should have marinated longer than 30 mins? So I spinkled some chilli and cumin on the remaining pieces after coating them in breadcrumbs. But it was still deliciously juicy. If you like fried chicken, this is your recipe 🙂
