Its been a while, since i shared baby food recipes in this blog. Its all because of lazyness. I have few baby recipes to share, so i decided to post all of them now, so many will get benefited from that. Maha is on her 10th month now, i have started giving rice as her main lunch. I add dal, spinach puree in it and mash it well and feed her. Sometimes when i didn't find time to make all these i make this ghee rice and feed her. Along with her rice, i never leave to feed a hard boiled egg yolk to her.

    Ingredients for Ghee Rice

    • Rice - ½ cup cooked
    • Ghee - 1 tsp
    • Salt a pinch
    • Freshly Ground Pepper a pinch
    Pin

To add more taste to rice, i add a touch of rice and some freshly ground pepper in it. Maha loves it a lot.

1)Cook rice properly till it is almost mashed up, that helps in easy digestion in babies.

2)Always wash rice very well to remove all the starch and acky stuff from it.

3)Add garlic and asafoetida when cooking rice if you wish This helps in digestion in babies.

4)This is so filling and nutritious meal for your babies.

5)You can start feeding this for babies above 6 months. For 6 month baby dont add pepper.

6)Always feed this meal for lunch, not for dinner.

7)The consistency of this is up to you. You can mash them with a potato masher, or put them in a blender and make into a fine puree. I make it into a fine puree.

8)Adding ghee enhances the flavour and make it more nutritious for you baby and helps in weight gaining in babies.

9)Make sure the ghee which you use is pure ones. I make my own ghee.

10)Rice wont cause constipation, allergies in babies.

How to sterilize baby feeding bowls:

Start by sterilizing the bowls and spoons which you are going to feed your baby. Take the bowl and spoon in a large saucepan, cover it with water and bring them to a boil. Boil it rapidly for 5 mins. Now you can turn the heat off and leave them stay in the hot water till use.

Is adding salt recommended for babies under 1 year? I've heard that it can harm their kidneys..

Hi Arthi, i have a 10 month old baby. He eats rice for lunch and the rest of the day he drinks formula/breat milk. I find he wants more of solid foods. But i donot know how much he can be fed in a day.Do you have any feeding guide/schedule?

What my pead suggested is "No egg before 1 year . Because it is difficult for babies to digest. It may cause digestion prob in future if not now". So please consult your pead before giving any food.

Hi they say not to give egg whites before one year cause that can cause allergies. Egg yolks are fine as long as they are cooked well.

Another way of sterilizing is to take the bowl you use for feeding, fill it 1/4 or more with filtered water dunk the spoon you use to feedin it as well and boil it rapidly...since no one uses really itsy bitsy bowls to feed the baby it is safe to be kept directly on the stove top too..I do it this way..saves water because you dont have to use a lot of it and time because it boils faster...even better I sometimes use my bottle sterilizer...no watching over the stove top Just do it a little earlier☺
