Its been a while since i baked breads, I love to make sandwiches for dinner. Mostly i use store bought bread for it. Sometimes when i am in a baking mood i bake my own breads. Few weeks back i was in that mood. I also found a packet of mushroom in my fridge. So decided to use that for this sandwich. I thought to make long rolls, so that i can fill them and have it like a submarine rolls..

I made a couple of rolls, which is made of whole wheat. I left out butter and used olive oil for this. So they turned out healthy. I hope you will love it and give it a try..

    Preparation Time : 15 mins

    Resting Time : 3 hours
    Baking Time : 30 - 40 mins
Makes - 2 long rolls (App 30 cm)

    Ingredients:

    Wheat Flour / Atta - 1 cup / 120 grams

    All Purpose Flour / Maida - 1 cup / 120 grams
    Salt - to taste
    Sugar - 1 tblspn
    Olive Oil - 2 tblspn
Active Dry Yeast - ½ tblspn
Warm Water - 1 cup / 250 ml or as needed
    Sesame Seeds as needed

    Method:

Take a mixing bowl, add warm water in it.

Sprinkle some yeast over it, add some sugar in it and mix well. leave it aside for 5 mins.

Add in the wheat flour and regular flour in and mix well.

Add some salt in it and knead it to a dough.

Drizzle in a tblspn of oil over it and knead well.

Transfer this dough into a greased mixing bowl and cover it with plastic wrap and set it aside for a couple of hours.

Divide the dough into two equal portions.

Take one portion out and flatten it slightly.

Pinch the top portion over it and the bottom portion too, so that it forms into a fat log.

Roll the log, so that it forms into a long sausage shape.

Place the log onto a greased foil lined tray and leave it to rise for a hour.

Before 10  mins of the final rising time, preheat the oven to 200 Degree C / 400 Degree F.

When it has doubled in size. Brush the top with water.

    Sprinkle it with sesame seeds.

Use a knife and make slashes on the rolls.

Bake this in a oven for 30 - 40 mins till it is golden on top and when you tap the top it should sound hollow.

Brush the rolls with olive oil or butter.

Serve it with butter or make sandwiches out of it.

Dear Lady, I think this preparation is a great food item as a snack,a whole meal and a nutrient and I am very eager to try it for taste with various accompaniments. However, baking for 35-45 min is alright but at what temperature in degrees Censius or Fahrenheit?

Nice! Everytime I try to bake buns it comes out very hard and inedible. I follow your instructions to the t. I even tried altering the baking time but to no avail. What am I doing wrong? I don't have any problem with cakes though

      Hi Aarthi

      I absolutely love this recipe!

Made it twice now and added a dark cocoa powder to give it a beautiful colour with some honey for a lovely flavour instead of sugar with the yeast.

Just made a batch for an order and I know my client is going to love it!

I loved the taste and texture of these rolls, but the amount of water seems way too much! I added flour to the dough to make it "shapeable." What do you think?
