    Hot & Sour Chicken Soup

Spicy Hot & Sour is the only soup which I order all time...We will go to a near by restaurant often and I will order this soup along with crispy fish fingers..Hmmm...This taste so awesome..I love adding egg and chicken in this soup..I love the taste of it..But if you wish you could make it entirely vegetarian..Skip the chicken and egg part in this recipe and add lots of vegetables.

I made this a while before and served it with some crispy chicken croquettes(remember the recipe). This was our dinner that day. It rained heavily that day and soup with fried chicken croquettes made us so comforting and cozy. So with no more delay..I am giving you the step by step recipe with pictures.

Ingredients for chicken hot and sour soup

    • Chicken-½ kg
    • Carrot – ½ cup shredded
    • Cabbage – ½ cup shredded
    • Egg-1
    • Tomato Ketchup – 1 tblspn or to taste
    • Soy Sauce – 1 tblspn or to taste
    • Vinegar – 1 tsp or to taste
    • Red Chilli Paste – 1 tsp or to taste
    • Ginger Garlic Paste-1 tsp
    • Salt to taste
    • Sugar-1 tsp
    • Pepper to taste
    • Cornflour-1 tblspn mixed with some cold water
    • Butter -1 tblspn
    • Cilantro – as needed

How to Make Chicken Hot and Sour Soup

    1. Take some water in a sauce pan and bring that to boil..Add in the chicken and cook until it is cooked all the way through..Remove that and allow it to cool down..Chop it finely and set aside.
    2. Now drain the stock through a fine sieve and take it in a bowl..Add red chilli paste, soy sauce, vinegar, tomato ketchup in this stock and mix well.Set this aside for a moment.
    3. Now melt some butter in a sauce pan..Add in ginger garlic paste and fry for 1 min.
    4. Add in carrot and cabbage and mix well..Cook this for 5 mins.
    5. Pour the stock over the veggies and mix well.
    6. Season with salt and sugar and mix well..
    7. Now add in the chicken pieces and mix well..Simmer this for 10 mins..
    8. Add in the cornflour slurry slowly in this and keep mixing until the soup thickens..
    9. Drizzle in one beaten egg and mix well..Off the flame immediately..
    10. Garnish with fresh cilantro and mix well.
    11. Serve hot..

Hi aarthi, i made this soup in a big pot with 1.5 kg chicken. Got a bit generous with the sauces snd i thought i addded too much vinegar. But my husband totally loved it. Thank you so much for all your recipes. I only recently stumbled into your website and i should admit that i m addicted to it. Every day i visit it and for almost every dish that i make now, i refer your recipe. your simplified steps and pictures inspire me to cook more. God bless you!
