    TwitterFacebookPinterestTelegramWhatsAppYummly

I have been getting tons and tons of mails from viewers asking me what oven do i use..So i decided to do a post on it..I am also getting mails abour baking basics, will do a separate post for them soon..Ok now coming to the Oven which i use..I use two ovens, Both are OTG type. One oven in my mom's place and one in my house. All the baking recipes which you see here is made in either one of these ovens.

I get so many questions from my viewers to suggest me good oven. Whether to buy convection or OTG. First lets see what is a Microwave Grill Oven, Microwave Convection Oven & OTG Oven.

    Microwave Grill Oven:

1)You can cook foods, make curries or anything in it.
2)You can reheat left over foods in it.
3)You can do microwave cakes it. Cakes will get bake but you wont get the nice texture and colour on them. And to note, you can only bake certain cakes in it.
4)You can grill foods in it. You can grill chicken or veggies in it. But the results wont be so perfect.
5)You can only use microwave safe bowls in this oven. No aluminum trays can be used.

    Microwave Convection Oven:

1)You can cook foods, make curries or anything in it.
2)You can reheat left over foods in it.
    3)You
    can bake anything in it.
4)You can grill foods in it. You can grill chicken or veggies in it
5)You can roast anything in it.
5)You can use aluminium pan in it for baking.

    OTG Oven:

1)You can bake anything in it.
2)You can grill, roast anything in it.
3)You cannot cook foods in it.
4)You cannot reheat foods in it.

I have a Microwave Grill Oven and OTG Oven. I use my microwave grill oven to cook and reheat food. I use my OTG oven for baking, grilling, roasting.

If you are looking for all the options in one oven, then go for a Microwave Convection Oven.

     ------------------------------------------------------------------------

    MEET MY FIRST OVEN:

My First Oven which i bought nearly 4 years back when i initailly started this blog. It is a KORYO 19 Liter OTG Oven, Model No
    KOT 1921.

The features of this oven is

    1) Rotisserie Function
2)Easy Clean & Non Stick Coating
    3)60 Mins timer
    4)Temperature Control Upto 250 Degree C
    5)6 Stage Switch Heating Element

    Pin

I bought this oven for nearly 1500 Rs. At first i thought that this oven is not going to work for too long, because it was so cheap. But to my surprise it worked for nearly 4 years with no problem and still it is in a good condition. It is easy to operate and very user friendly.

This oven has heating element options too.

    1) If you want to grill something, you have to set the option to top. So the top element alone heats and gives a nice charred or golden brown effects to your meats, buns and bread.

    2) If you want the bottom of the food to toast and get nice crisp effect, heat the bottom element alone. It works great with bread.

3)If you want to bake cakes, cookies, cook meat or anything. You have to set the both element on. This ensures even baking.

There are still three more options, i have never used it so far.

    And It
has timer upto 60 mins, if you want to grill or cook for more than a
hour, you got to come back at the ending time and set it for more time
    as you need.

The temperature of the oven goes upto 250 degree C. For baking i normally use 180 degree C. For grilling meats or cooking meats i use 200 Degree C to 250 Degree C.

    Pin

This oven comes with a tray and a wire rack. I usually do my cookies or buns over this tray. I line a foil over it and brush that with some oil. When i want to place my cake tin in, i use the wire rack.

The oven has three adjusting height options, I use the center rack when i want to cook or bake. When i want to grill i put the tray on the top rack. When i bake any bread i use the bottom rack so it has room to rise.

    Pin
Overall my experience with this oven is wonderful. If you are looking for a compact oven with low price. Then this oven is to go for. I strongly recommend it.. WORTH FOR ITS CHEAP PRICE.

    MEET MY SECOND OVEN:

This is the oven which i bough two years back. It is a Morphy Richards 40 liter OTG Oven, Model No RC-SS.

The functions of this oven are

    1)Rotisserie function
2)Stainless Steel Outer Body, Mirror Finish Door
    3)90 Min Timer
    4)Temperature upto 250 Degree C
    5)Convection  Function (It has fan)
    6)Keep Warm Function

    Pin

Actually this oven was bought on a great deal. I bought it for 6000 Rs. Now the price has gone up. This oven is great when you bake huge cakes, because it has lots of space in it. It is easy to use and user friendly.

do my cookies or buns over this tray. I line a foil over it and brush
that with some oil. When i want to place my cake tin in, i use the wire
rack. Actually the tray has high sides, so you can roast chicken or anything in it, it doesn't spill.

This oven has 4 adjusting levels. I use the
center rack when i want to cook or bake. When i want to grill i put the
tray on the top rack. You can bake bread in the center rack itself.

    The
temperature of the oven goes upto 250 degree C. For baking i normally
use 180 degree C. For grilling meats or cooking meats i use 200 Degree C

4)You can even bake cakes without the fan option too. Just turn on the both elements on.

    And It
has timer upto 60 mins, if you want to grill or cook for more than a
hour, you got to come back at the ending time and set it for more time

Overall my experience with this oven is so good. I love using it. I can bake 4 round cake tins at the same time. The space inside the oven is that big.

If your budget is little high and you have a big counter space for this oven. You can go for this oven.

Thanks a lot for this guidance for oven selection. Have been in a dilemna as to what to select for a long time. Buying an OTG and a microwave separately seems to be the best option to enjoy baking. My family looks forward to the aromatic smells of baking bread and biscuits. Will also look forward to the basic baking guidelines from you; esp. for vegetarians.

The rods in my oven become reddish when I switch on the oven, but then once it reaches the temp I have set (180 deg) it takes a long time to get back on and the rods never become red/reddish again. Once it restarts the red light glows for hardly a few seconds before it switches off again. Is this normal or is something wrong with my oven?

      Hi Aarthi,

Thanks for all your efforts to reply to our questions.

I have few questions to ask:

I have a Microwave Oven of Mitashi which has many functionality such as Grill,Convection,Microwave+Convection,Pizza etc.

Let say I bake a cake at 180 degree for 40 mins at Convection mode, then my cake comes out as sticky in middle, its only baked at the outer layer and uncooked from inside, whereas if I bake the cake at same temperature and duration in Microwave+Convection mode, then my cake comes out as burnt.

So to avoid these conditions, I bake the cake for some time in Convection and then for few minutes in Microwave+Convection.

Can you please help me with this.

@hariniu can use steel ones, but steel will give you improper baking. You can line it with foil and use.

      Hi Aarthi,

Thanks for the review. It's very useful.

Can you help me choose an ideal OTG? I think I need a 28L one for a family of 4.

But I'm confused if I must buy a Bajaj or Hamilton or Morphy Richards. Can you make a suggestion as to which brand is better in terms of appliance itself, baking quality & eventually service if you are aware.

      Regards,
      Deepika.

We are a family of 4, and I think my baking frequency would be twice a month

Can you please suggest the capacity that I need to look for ?

      Hi Aarthi,
I am Vidya. I am a regular visitor of your blog. You are doing a wonderful job in the blog. I have tried lot of the recipes from your site and I have had success.

I have a basic baking question. I do have Morphy Richard OTG 24lt. Like yours mine too have setting for turning rods on and off.

I do the following while baking
Top and Bottom - on - For Preheating
Bottom - on - For baking cakes and cookies. In case of cake, for the last 5 min I switch on both top and bottom rods for good browning of the cake.

      Now my doubts are
      1. Am I using the right settings?
      2. I manage to bake cake better, but cookies are always a disaster. I always end up over baking the cookies even if I take it out in 9 min.

What settings should I use for cookies?

Sorry for the long post here. Waiting to hear from you....

      Hi Aarti,

I have been reading your blog recently.. I wanna buy an OTG to start baking cakes, cookies and grill sandwiches. Hope my verbs are correct.

As holidays are nearer it is quite difficult to engage kids with different food items.

Can you explain the functions of different modes such as rotisserie, fan mode, keep warm etc.

Different models are tagged with different words such as grill, toast, bake etc..

      Hi Aarthi,
I have a Morphy Richards OTG 60 RCSS. It has 3 rack slots in it. Can I bake cookies in two racks? Which slots should I use? I understand from your replies that I have to preheat & bake with both top & bottom rods ON.Do I have to change the trays, top to bottom in the middle if the bake time?
I have a large order & need your advice. Thanks

      Hi,

      Your post is quite informative.
I had some questions. I want to buy a new OTG. I don't do a lot of baking, will be using this more for making pizza, bruschetta, garlic bread, lasagna, baked dish, etc.
I am keen on learning new things to bake like cakes, muffins, and even bread.
How do I decide the capacity of the oven which I need to buy. We are a family of 4.
Someone suggested that I should go for 40ltrs but I'm not sure. Request you to give your input to help me decide what capacity OTG to buy.

      Thanks in advance

Can you suggest which is the good one in market these days? Checked shops , every shop is marketting for Samsung but for some reason i don't trust Samsung for ovens. My main purpose for oven is grilling and reheating. Maybe will try baking too.. Planning to go for either LG or IFB.. is there anything else ? Pls suggest. Thanks and keep up the good work
