When your baby gets bored to the usual ragi porridge, raw banana porridge and wheat porridge, then this sooji porridge comes as a life saver. It is so easy to prepare and so healthy for babies too. There are certain things you have to read must before making this.

Things to remember before making this:

    1) Roast sooji well in the ghee this makes it easy to digest in babies.

    2) You can roast sooji in bulk and store in a air tight container in fridge and use it accordingly.

3)If you want a finer and smooth kheer, powder the roasted sooji in a blender, this will make more smoother kheer and your baby will find it easy to swallow. I make it that way only. The texture depends upon your babies interest.

4)For babies above 1 year old you can make this kheer with cow's milk, for babies below 1 year cow's milk is not advisable.

    5) Dont add formula milk to hot kheer, since formula milk should not be cooked, let the kheer comes to a warm temp in which you feed your baby, then add the prepared formula milk.

    6)I use panakarkandu or
    karupatti as sweetner. Karupatti
strengthens your baby bones. Panakarkandu helps prevending cold for
your babies. You can even mix up a small piece of both.

7)If you feed a good bowl of this for your baby. Your baby will sleep peacefully for a good 2 to 3 hours. It is that filling.

8)Sooji doesn't cause constipation in babies.

9)Sooji is easy to digest and non allergenic food.

    10)The
consistency of the porridge which you make totally depends on you. You
can make it too runnier and pour it bottles and feed your baby or make
it little thicker and feed your baby using a spoon.

How to sterilize baby feeding bowls:

    Start
by sterilizing the bowls and spoons which you are going to feed your
baby. Take the bowl and spoon in a large saucepan, cover it with water
and bring them to a boil. Boil it rapidly for 5 mins. Now you can turn
the heat off and leave them stay in the hot water till use.

How to make Sooji Kheer for Babies & Infants :

    Ingredients:

    Sooji / Semolina / Suji / Rava - 2 tblspn
    Jaggery /Sarkarai / Vellam / Palmsugar - 2 tblspn
    Clean Water - 1 cup
    Ghee - 1 tsp
Formula Milk - ¼ cup (Use cow's milk for babies above 1 year)
(I use lactogen for my baby)

    Method:

Take a clean sauce pan and add in a tsp of ghee. Add in sooji and roast it on a low flame till it turns light golden. Now remove that to a bowl.

In the same sauce pan add in jaggery and some water. Heat it till jaggery melts. Now strain this mix and pour it into a sauce pan.

Add in roasted sooji and mix well. Cook till the sooji is well cooked, it will take around 10 mins.

Now remove the sauce pan from heat and let it cool a bit. Mean while make formula milk. Pour this milk to the warm sooji kheer and mix well.

Pour into sterlized bowls and feed your baby.

Nice one aarthi. What is palmsugar? Is it the usual jaggery or a different kind? My hubby brought palmsugar from a store but it does not look like the one in your pic. It is black in colour, smells like mehendi powder and not too sweet. Is it the right one?

@meenal verma Rice is good for babies, i use the rice which we eat daily. And in many babies the motion will get thick when u feed solid foods like rice, and it is not constipation. It is normal in babies. And i feed lactogen for my baby

Aarthi you have a lovely blog with great recipes for babies.I fed my 6 month old baby Sooji kheer and he loved it. He slept straight for 3 hours after the feed. He loves all fruits and most of the food with sweet flavors. I also want to feed him with food without any sweet taste.

Which recipe would be a good try with a pinch of salt in it?
