Yesterday I went my mum’s place, me and my sisters had great time together. We cooked and baked together. She made kadai paneer and paneer fried rice for me, I took pictures of her cooking..I will post those recipes soon. We also baked a chocolate chip and almond streusal topped pudding cake. It cameout so good..We loved it a lot. And I admit that my sister who just finished schooling is cooking like   a professional.

Now coming to the recipe. I recently found that hubby is loving sprouts a lot. Now I am having a huge container of sprouts in my fridge. I am making salads out of it and every now and then I am adding it into upmas and so on..But last week I thought to make sambar out of it. Everything cameout pretty good together. I loved the tart and sweet combo in that sambar. This is so much healthier and goes great with hot rice..
I hope you will love it and tell me how it turned out..
Ingrediants:
Mulaikattiya Payaru / Moong Sprouts / Green Gram Sprouts – 2 cups
Onion – 1 large chopped
Tomatoes – 2 chopped
Potato – 1 large peeled and chopped
Tamarind Pulp – 1 tblspn or to taste ( Click here for recipe)
Jaggery  a small piece
Chilli powder – 2 tsp (adjust)
Turmeric powder / Manjal podi – 1 tsp
Coriander powder / Malli podi – 1 tblspn
Salt to taste
Coriander leaves / Cilantro for garnishing
For Tempering:
Oil – 1 tblspn
Mustard Seeds / Kaduku – 1 tsp
Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam – 1 tsp
Dry Red Chilli – 1
Asafoetida / Hing / Kaya podi – 1/4 tsp
Method:
Take tamarind pulp in a bowl and add about half a cup of water. Now add turmeric, chilli, coriander and salt to it and mix well.Set this aside till use.
Heat oil in a deep pan. Add all the ingrediants given in the tempering list and let it sizzle for a min.
Now add in onions and tomatoes and mix well. Saute this for a min.
Add in potatoes and sprouts and mix well.
Cover with water and let it cook for 15-20 mins untill the potatoes is cooked and break down..
Now add in the mixed tamarind water and mix well..Let it boil for 2-3 mins untill the raw flavour of tamarind goes away.
Add in a small piece of jaggery and mix well. And simmer for a couple of mins.
Garnish with cilantro and serve over rice..
Pictorial:
Take all your ingrediants
Dissolve tamarind pulp in water
add salt and chilli powder to it
add coriander and turmeric powder
and mix well
Heat oil in a pan
add all the ingrediants given in the tempering list
Add onions and tomatoes to the oil
add potatoes and sprouts
mix well
Pour enough water…
Cover and cook
till everything is cooked beautifully
now add the mixed tamarind water
and let it boil for few more minutes
add a piece of jaggery to this
