Ingredients

  • Oil - 1 tblspn
  • Mustard Seeds / Kaduku - 1 tsp
  • Urad dal / Ulundu Paruppu - 1 tsp
  • Asafoetida / Hing / Kaya Podi a pinch
  • Onions - 1 sliced thinly
  • Tomato - 1 chopped finely
  • Green Chilli -2
  • Chettinad Kuzhambu Masala Powder - 2 tblspn
  • Tamarind Pulp - 1 to 2 tblspn
  • Salt to taste
  • Sugar - ½ tsp
  • Coconut - ½ cup grated and ground into a smooth paste
  • Water as needed

Instructions

  • Heat oil in a kadai. Add in mustard, urad dal, asafoetida and sizzle them.
  • Add in onions, chillies, tomatoes and saute till onions turn soft.
  • Add in the masala powder and mix well.
  • Add in water along with salt, sugar, tamarind and coconut paste.
  • Bring this to a boil, simmer for 10 mins or till oil floats on top.
  • Serve
