Ingredients

  • Oil - 1 tblspn
  • Ghee - 1 tblspn
  • Cinnamon / Pattai - 4 cm piece
  • Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam - 2 tsp
  • Cardamom / Yalakai - 4
  • Cloves / Krambu - 4
  • Onion - 2 large sliced thinly
  • Ginger Garlic Paste - 2 tblspn
  • Tomatoes - 2 large sliced thinly
  • Curry Leaves - a handful
  • Green Chillies - 3 slit
  • Chilli Powder - 2 tsp
  • Coriander Powder - 2 tblspn
  • Cumin Powder - 2 tsp
  • Turmeric Powder / Manjal Podi - 1 tsp
  • Pepper Powder - 1 tsp
  • Garam Masala Powder - 1 tblspn
  • Fennel Seed Powder / Saunf / Sombu - 1 tblspn
  • Salt to taste
  • Mint Leaves - ½ cup chopped
  • Coriander Leaves - ½ cup chopped
  • Toor Dal / Tuvaram paruppu - ¾ cup
  • Chicken - 1 kg with bone
  • Raw Banana - 1 peeled and cubed
  • Potato - 2 medium size peeled and cubed
  • Brinjal - 2 cubed
  • Carrot - 1 cubed
  • Raw Mango - 1 medium size cubed
  • Tamarind Pulp - 2 to 3 tblspn

Instructions

  • Pressure cook toor dal with 3 cup of water for 3 whistle, simmer the flame and cook for 10 mins.
  • Turn off the heat and let the steam escape all by itself. Open the cooker and mash the dal well. Set aside.
  • Heat oil and ghee in a pressure cooker, add in whole spices and saute for a min.
  • Add in onions, salt and cook the onions till light brown.
  • Then add in Ginger garlic paste and saute for a min.
  • Add in tomatoes, curry leaves, green chillies and saute till the tomatoes turn mushy.
  • Add in all spice powders and mix well.
  • Now add in chicken and toss well in the masala. Fry this for 5 mins till the chicken gets nice colour.
  • Add in coriander and mint leaves. Mix well.
  • Then add in all veggies except mango and mix well.
  • Add in water and mix well. Cover and pressure cook for 2 whistle. Simmer the flame for 10 mins.
  • Turn off the heat and let the steam go all by itself. Open the cooker and add in dal, mango, tamarind pulp.
  • Simmer this for 10 mins.
  • Add in more coriander leaves and mix well.
  • Serve with rice or pulav.
