Ingredients

  • 1 large Tomatoes chopped finely
  • 1 slit Green Chilli
  • ½ cup Toor Dal / Tuvaram paruppu cooked
  • 2 tbsp Tamarind Pulp
  • 5 cloves Garlic crushed
  • 1 tbsp Rasam Powder i used store bought
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • 2 tbsp Coriander leaves finely chopped
  • For Seasoning:
  • 1 tsp Oil
  • 1 tsp Mustard Seeds / Kaduku
  • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam
  • 1 sprig Curry leaves
  • ¼ tsp Asafoetida / Hing / Kaya Podi
  • 1 broken Dry Red Chilli

Instructions

  • Take oil in a sauce pan, add in all the seasoning ingredients and fry them for 30 sec.
  • Now add in tomatoes and green chilli. Saute for couple of mins.
  • Add in salt, sugar and rasam powder. Mix well.
  • Add in water and tamarind pulp, crushed garlic cloves and mix well. Bring this to a boil.
  • Now add in cooked dal and bring it to boil.
  • Once it reaches a boil, turn off the heat and add coriander leaves.
  • Mix well and serve.
