Ingredients

  • 1 tsp Oil
  • 1 cup Pineapples chopped finely
  • 1 medium size Tomatoes chopped finely
  • 1 slit Green Chilli
  • 1 tbsp Sugar
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp Turmeric Powder / Manjal Podi
  • 2 tbsp or to taste Rasam Powder
  • ¼ cup cooked and mashed Toor Dal / Tuvaram Paruppu
  • Coriander Leaves a hanful finely chopped
  • For Rasam Masala:
  • 1 tsp Peppercorns / Whole Pepper
  • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam
  • 3 fat cloves Garlic
  • For Grinding:
  • 1 medium size Tomatoes chopped
  • ¾ cup Pineapples chopped
  • For Seasoning:
  • 1 tsp Oil
  • 1 tsp Mustard Seeds / Kaduku
  • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam
  • ¼ tsp Asafoetida/ Hing / Kaya Podi
  • 1 Dry Red Chilli
  • Curry leaves a sprig

Instructions

  • Grind pepper, cumin and garlic to a coarse mix. Set aside.
  • Grind pineapples and tomatoes to a smooth puree and set aside.
  • Heat 1 tsp oil in a kadai. Add in chopped pineapples, chillies and tomatoes and give a good saute. Add in crushed masala and mix well.
  • Add in salt, sugar, turmeric powder, rasam masala, ground pineapple mix and mix well.
  • Pour in water and toor dal. Bring everything to a good boil.
  • Once it reached a boil, turn the heat off.
  • Make tempering by heating oil and crackling mustard, cumin, hing, dry red chilli and curry leaves. Pour this over the rasam and mix well.
  • Add in lots of chopped coriander leaves and mix well.
  • Serve with rice.
