Ingredients

  • 1 small deseeded and chopped finely Pudalagai / Snake Gourd
  • ½ cup washed Yellow Split Moong Dal
  • Salt to taste
  • For Grinding:
  • ¾ cup Coconut
  • 1 tsp Chilli powder
  • 1 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam
  • For Seasoning:
  • 1 tbsp Coconut Oil
  • 1 tsp Mustard Seeds / Kaduku

Instructions

  • Take washed moong dal in a sauce pan. Cover with water and bring it to a boil.
  • Once it reaches a boil add in chopped up snake gourd and mix well.
  • Cover with a lid and let it cook for 15 to 20 mins.
  • Now take the grinding ingredients in a mixer and blend it to a smooth puree.
  • Once the dal is done, add in the ground masala and mix well. Let it cook on a low heat for 5 mins.
  • Now make seasoning by heating oil and crackling some mustard. Pour this over the kootu and mix well.
  • Serve with rice.
