Ingredients

  • Raw Papaya - 1 medium size peeled and cubed Amma used slightly ripe ones
  • Split Yellow Channa Dal / Kadala Paruppu - ¾ cup
  • Turmeric powder / Manjal podi - 1 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • To grind:
  • Coconut - ¾ cup
  • Jeera powder - 1 tsp
  • Dry Red Chilli - 3 or to taste
  • For Seasoning:
  • Oil - 1 tblspn
  • Mustard Seeds / Kaduku - 1 tsp
  • Urad dal / Ulundam Paruppu - 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves - 1 spring

Instructions

  • Take channa dal and soak it in water for 15 mins. Now add them in a kadai and cover it with water. Bring it to boil and simmer for 15 to 20 mins till the dal is cooked.
  • Once the dal is half cooked, add in papaya and mix well. Cover with a lid and let it cook for 15 min or till the papaya is cooked.
  • Add in turmeric and salt and mix well.
  • Now take the grinding ingredients in a mixer and make into a paste by adding some water.
  • Now add the paste into the papaya mixture and mix well. Cook it for 5 to 8 mins.
  • Make seasoning by heating oil and add in mustard, urad dal and curry leaves, Let it sizzle for a min.
  • Pour this over the papaya mixture and mix well.
  • Serve with rice.
