Ingredients

  • 3 cups All Purpose Flour
  • ¼ cup Sugar
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Dry Yeast
  • 11/4 cup Milk
  • 2 tbsp Melted Butter or Oil

For Orange Sauce

  • 1 cup Orange Juice
  • 1 tsp Orange zest
  • ½ cup Sugar
  • 2 tbsp Butter

Other Ingredients

  • ¼ cup Butter
  • ¼ cup Sugar

Instructions

  • Let's activate the yeast. Take ¼ cup warm milk in a bowl. Add in 1 tsp sugar and yeast. Set aside for 5 mins. So the yeast activates.
  • Now let's make the dough. Take flour, ¼ cup sugar, salt in a bowl and mix well. Now add in yeast mix, milk and knead to a soft dough. Add in oil or melted butter to the dough and knead for 1 mins. Cover and let it rise in a warm spot for 1 hour.
  • While the dough is rising. Let's make the orange sauce. Take orange juice, orange zest, sugar and butter in a sauce pan. Bring everything to a boil. Cook for 5 mins till the sauce thickens. Set aside so it can cool down a bit.
  • Once the dough is risen. Remove the dough onto a well floured surface. I used a silicone mat for easy working. Dust the work surface with dough. Knead the dough once. And start rolling. Roll it into a rectangle.
  • Now spread butter all over the dough and sprinkle with the remaining ¼ cup of sugar evenly. Now roll it into a tight log like. Use a thread to cut it into small rolls. Make sure the size of the rolls are even.
  • Now take your baking pan. I like to line mine with parchment paper for easy clean up. Now pour the orange sauce over the pan. Place the rolls on the pan. I was able to fit 9 rolls on my baking pan. Cover and let them rise for another 30 mins.
  • In the last 10 minutes of rising, preheat oven to 180 degree C. Now place the pan into the oven and let them bake for 25 to 30 mins. Remove and let them cool for 5 mins. Un mould, now the sticky orange sauce will be on top of the rolls. Pull apart the rolls and serve warm.

Notes

  • Make sure the door which you are making a soft enough so the rolls turnout softer when you bake them.
  • You could add a pinch of cardamom powder in your orange sauce because cardamom and orange goes perfectly together.
  • Any spices can be added into the dough, like cinnamon powder goes well with orange as well.
  • You could in fact make the dough a day in advance and store in fridge and make it any time as you like.
  • The door can be made the day before like the previous night and you could make fresh orange roll in the morning for breakfast.

Storage & Serving Suggestions

  • Orange rolls are best served warm on the same day or you can store it in the fridge and reheat it in microwave as needed. Prepared rolls can be stored in the fridge for up to a week and reheated in microwave as needed. Pop the orange rolls in the microwave just for 10 to 20 seconds for reheating.
  • Sticky Orange rolls has to be stored in fridge because it has fruit so it is it tends to spoil easier.
  • Orange rolls are best served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream all as it is.
