Ingredients

  • 1 cup Black Eyed Peas
  • 3 tbsp Oil
  • 6 Cloves Garlic Chopped finely
  • 1 Onions Chopped finely
  • 1 Capsicum Chopped finely
  • 3 Green chillies Chopped finely
  • 3 Tomatoes pureed
  • 2 tsp Kashmiri Chilli powder
  • 2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp Turmeric powder
  • ½ cup Tomato Ketchup
  • 2 tbsp Dijon Mustard
  • ¼ cup Brown Sugar
  • Salt
  • 3 tbsp Coriander leaves

Instructions

  • Soak black eyed peas for 4 to 6 hours. Take the beans in the pressure cooker cover it with water and pressure cook for 3 to 4 whistles. Let the pressure release by itself open the cooker check whether the beans are cooked. Set aside.
  • Mix tomato ketchup, brown sugar and mustard. Set aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan. Add in garlic, onion, bell peppers and green chilies sauté for 4 to 5 minutes. Add and spice powders and salt mix really well. Add in tomato puree mix well. cover and cook for 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Add in the beans along with any cooking liquid. Pour in the tomato ketchup sauce and mix really well. Cover and cook on very low heat for 20 to 30 minutes.
  • Finally add in some coriander leaves and serve.
