Pumpkin Green Gram Kootu Recipe

Pumpkin green gram curry taste amazing with some plain rice or kanji. You can make it spicy and have it with some porridge as well.

Ingredients

  • Pumpkin - 3 cups cubed
  • Green Gram - ½ cup
  • Onion - 1 chopped finely
  • Green Chillies - 2 chopped
  • Turmeric Powder - 1 tsp
  • Salt to taste

FOR GRINDING:

  • Coconut - 1 cup
  • Cumin Seeds - 1 tsp
  • Dry Red Chillies - 3

FOR SEASONING:

  • Coconut Oil - 3 tblsp
  • Mustard Seeds / Kaduku - 1 tsp
  • Urad dal / Ulundu Paruppu - 1 tsp
  • Dry Red Chillies - 2
  • Curry Leaves a handful

Instructions

  • Pressure cook green gram for 3 to 4 whistle till it is completely cooked. Set aside.
  • Take pumpkin, onion, green chillies in a pot and add salt and turmeric powder.
  • Cook till pumpkin is half cooked.
  • Now add in green gram and mix well.
  • Grind coconut masala.
  • Add coconut masala and mix well.
  • Cook till it thickens.
  • Heat oil in a pan, add seasoning ingredients and let them sizzle.
  • Pour it over the curry.
  • Mix well. Serve.
