Tomato Pappu Recipe | Tomato Dal Recipe | How to Make Andhra Tomato Daal
Tomato pappu or Andhra Tomato Dal is made with tomatoes, toor dal and spices which adds a tangy taste to the dal. This dal is perfect to mix with hot rice and ghee.
Toor Dal / Tuvaram Paruppu / Split Pigeon Peas – 1 cup
Tomatoes – 2 large chopped
Green Chilli – 1 slit
Salt to taste
Water – 4 cups
For Seasoning:
Oil / Ghee – 1 tblspn
Mustard Seeds / Kaduku – 1 tsp
Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam – 1 tsp
Fenugreek Seeds / Methi / Vendayam – ½ tsp
Dry Red Chilli – 1
Curry leaves – 1 spring
Turmeric Powder – ½ tsp
Chilli Powder – 1 tsp
Coriander Powder / Malli Podi– 1 tblspn
Tomato – 1 small chopped
Instructions
Wash dal in several changes of water and let it soak for 15 mins.
Now take in a pot and add water, tomatoes and green chilli and bring it to a boil. Cover and simmer for 20-25 mins until the dal is cooked completely..It should be completely mushy.
Now add salt and mix well..Keep this in simmering..Adjust the water level if you need..
Heat a tawa or kadai. Add oil in it. Add mustard seeds , cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds, dry red chilli, curry leaves, turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder and tomatoes. Mix this for a min.
