Easy Onion Tomato Chutney Recipe with step by step pictures. This recipe is a traditional south Indian chutney for Idli, dosa or kuzhipaniyaram. It is delicious, flavorful, spicy and slightly tangy.

  • Onion - 1 large peeled and chopped
  • Tomato - 1 large chopped
  • Dry Red Chillies - 3 to 4
  • Garlic - 3 fat cloves peeled
  • Tamarind - 1 tsp
  • Gingelly Oil - 2 tblspn
  • Mustard Seeds / Kaduku - ½ tsp
  • Salt to taste


  • Take onion, tomato, chilli, garlic, tamarind in a blender and make it into a fine puree.
  • Heat oil in a kadai. Add in mustard and let it crackle.
  • Add in the ground puree, salt and cook till oil separates.
  • Serve with idli or dosa or kuzhipaniyaram.
