Ingredients

  • For Tapioca:
  • 500 grams Tapioca / Maravalli Kizhangu
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as needed for cooking
  • For Cooking Mutton:
  • 500 grams Mutton / Lamb
  • 1 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as needed
  • For Mutton Curry:
  • ¼ cup Coconut Oil
  • 1 tblspn Fennel seeds / Sombu / Saunf
  • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam
  • 4 cm piece Cinnamon / Pattai
  • 2 Mace
  • 2 Kalpaasi
  • 2 large sliced thinly Onion
  • 2 tblspn Ginger Garlic Paste
  • 2 tblspn Coriander Powder
  • 1.5 tblspn Chilli Powder
  • 2 tsp Cumin Powder
  • 1 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 2 tblspn Garam Masala Powder
  • 1 cup finely gratedCoconut
  • Water as needed
  • Coriander Leaves a handful finely chopped

Instructions

  • Peel and cube tapioca into small pieces. Take it in a small sauce pan, add salt to it and cover it with water. Cook till tender. Drain and set aside.
  • Now cook mutton, take mutton in a pressure cooker, add salt, turmeric powder and water. cover and cook for 6 whistle, simmer for 15 mins. Turn off the heat and let the steam escape all by itself. Open the cooker and set aside.
  • Now in a kadai, add in coconut and dry roast till golden. Set aside.
  • Now in the same pan, add in oil and fry the whole spices.
  • Now add in onions and cook till golden.
  • Add in ginger garlic paste and cook for 2 mins.
  • Add in spice powders and mix well.
  • Now add in cooked mutton and mix well. bring it to a boil and simmer and 10 mins or so.
  • Now add in cooked tapioca and mix well. cook till it thickens and simmer for 10 more mins.
  • Now add in roasted coconut and coriander leaves. Mix well.
  • Serve.
