Ingredients

  • Green Gram / Pacha payaru-1 cup
  • Onion-1 chopped
  • Tomato-2 chopped
  • Coriander powder / Malli podi-1 tblspn
  • Red Chilli powder -1tsp
  • Turmeric powder / Manjal podi-1 tsp
  • Garam masala powder-1 tsp
  • Cumin seeds / Jeerakam-1 tsp
  • Ghee-1 tblspn
  • Oil-1 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Sugar -1 tsp
  • Coriander leaves/Cilantro for garnishing

Instructions

  • Pressure cook dal till completely cooked. If you press it with your fingers it should get mashed.
  • Heat oil and ghee in a kadai. Crackle some cumin seeds.
  • Add in onions and cook till golden.
  • Add in all spice powders and mix well.
  • Throw in the tomatoes and cook till mushy..Add required amount of water and bring that to boil.
  • Add in the cooked dal and mix well.
  • Season with salt and sugar. Simmer this for 10 mins.
  • Garnish with cilantro and serve with roti or rice.
