Ingredients

  • 1 cup Barnyard Millet / Kuthiraivali
  • 2 tsp Oil or Ghee
  • 1 Bay Leaf
  • ½ tsp Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam
  • 1 small piece Cinnamon / Pattai
  • 1 Cardamom / Yelakai
  • 1 medium size Onion sliced thinly
  • 2 Green Chillies chopped
  • 1 tbsp Ginger Garlic Paste
  • ¼ cup Mint Leaves chopped finely
  • ¼ cup Coriander Leaves chopped finely
  • 1 medium size Carrot cubed
  • 5 Beans chopped
  • ½ chopped Capsicum / Bell Peppers
  • Salt to taste
  • 1.5 cup Water

Instructions

  • Wash millet really well and soak it for 15 mins or so
  • Heat oil in a cooker. Add in all the whole spices and let them sizzle.
  • Add in onions, chillies and cook till golden.
  • Now add in ginger garlic paste and saute for a min.
  • Add in carrots, beans and capsicum and saute for a min.
  • Add in the drained millet and toss well in the oil...Add in water, salt and mix well.
  • Cover and simmer. Pressure cook on a very low heat for 10 mins.
  • Turn off the heat and let the steam go all by itself. Open the cooker and fluff the rice.
  • Serve.
