Ingredients

  • ½ cup Toor Dal
  • 1 Tomato chopped
  • 4 cloves Garlic peeled
  • 1 tsp Turmeric Powder / Manjal Podi
  • 1.5 cup Water
  • Salt-to taste
  • Coriander leaves- a handful finely chopped
  • For Grinding:
  • ½ cup Coconut
  • 2 Green chilli
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds / Jeerakam
  • For Seasoning:
  • 1 tbsp Ghee or Oil
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • ¼ tsp Asafoetida / Hing / Kaya podi
  • 1 sprig Curry Leaves

Instructions

  • Take the grinding ingredients in a mixer and grind it into a smooth paste.
  • Wash toor dal well. Take dal, water, tomato, garlic, turmeric powder in a pressure cooker.
  • Cover and pressure cook for 3 whistle. Turn off the flame and let the steam go all by itself.
  • Now open the cooker and mash the dal roughly.
  • Add in the ground paste and mix well.Let it come to a boil again.Season with salt.
  • Now in a small pan,Heat ghee and add in the mustard seeds, asafoetida and curry leaves.Now pour this tadka into the dal and mix well.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves and serve with rice.
