Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup Toor Dal / Tuvaram Paruppu / Split Pigeon Peas
  • 1 Onion chopped
  • 1 Tomato-1 large chopped
  • 6 Garlic chopped
  • 1 inch Ginger chopped
  • 3 Green chilli chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds / Jeerakam
  • ½ teaspoon Fenugreek seeds / Vendayam
  • 1 sprig Curry leaves
  • 1 tablespoon Oil-1 tbsp
  • Sugar to taste
  • Salt to taste
  • Lemon juice to taste
  • Coriander leaves / Cilantro for garnishing

Instructions
 

  • Wash dal in lots of water and soak it for 30 mins. Take that in pressure cooker and add 3 cups of water..Cook for 2 whistles and simmer for 10 mins. Let the pressure go all by itself. Set aside for a moment.
  • Heat oil in a kadai. Add in cumin seeds and fenugreek seeds.
  • Add in Ginger and Garlic. Fry this for 1 min.
  • Add in green chilli and curry leaves. fry for 1 min.
  • Now add in onions and hing and cook till for 5 mins.
  • Throw in the tomato and mix well. Cook for 3 mins or until the tomatoes turn mushy.
  • Pour in dal and mix well. Add in required amount of water. Bring this to boil and simmer for 5 mins.
  • Season with salt and sugar and mix well.Squeeze in some lemon juice.
  • Garnish with cilantro.Serve hot with rice and any subzi.
