Ingredients
  

  • ½ cup Masoor Dal or Moong Dal
  • 1 large Potato peeled and cubed
  • 1 small Onion chopped into large chunks
  • 1 medium size Tomato cubed
  • 2 slit Green Chilli
  • 3 tablespoon Homemade Sambar powder
  • 2 tablespoon Tamarind Pulp
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • Coriander leaves / Cilantro a handful chopped
  • For Seasoning:
  • 2 tablespoon Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard Seeds / Kaduku
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam
  • ¼ teaspoon Asafoetida / Hing / Kaya podi
  • 1 sprig Curry leaves

Instructions
 

  • Heat a pot, add in dal, potato, tomato, onions, green chilli.
  • Cover with water and bring it to boil. Simmer it for 20 to 30 mins till the dal and everything is cooked.
  • Now add in sambar powder, tamarind pulp, salt and sugar. Mix well and simmer for 5 mins.
  • Now make seasoning, heat oil and add in all the seasoning ingredients in it. Let it sizzle for 30 sec.
  • Pour this over the sambar and mix well.
  • Now add in coriander leaves and mix well.
  • Serve with rice.
