Instant Pot Chicken Tahiri Recipe (Tehri)

Chicken Tahari is a spicy chicken and rice dish with juicy chicken and masala rice. This is best served with some cooling raita.

Ingredients
  

FOR CHICKEN:

  • Chicken with bones - 500 grams
  • Yogurt / Curd - ½ cup
  • Salt to taste
  • Ginger Garlic paste - 2 tblsp
  • Chilli Powder - 1 tblsp
  • Cumin Powder - 2 tsp
  • Coriander Powder - 1 tblsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
  • Garam Masala Powder - 1 tblsp

FOR GRINDING:

  • Tomato - 2 chopped
  • Green Chillies - 5
  • Ginger Garlic paste - 2 tblsp
  • Cinnamon - 1 stick
  • Fennel Seeds / Saunf / Sombu - 1 tblsp
  • Cardamom - 4
  • Cloves - 4
  • Star anise - 2
  • Coriander Leaves - ½ cup
  • Mint Leaves - ½ cup

FOR BIRYANI:

  • Oil - ¼ cup
  • Cardamom / Yelakai - 2
  • Bay Leaf - 1
  • Onion - 2 large sliced thinly
  • Basmati Rice - 3 cups
  • Salt to taste
  • Water - 4.5 cups

Instructions
 

  • Mix chicken with the masala given. Leave to marinate for 30 mins.
  • Wash and soak rice for 30 mins.
  • Grind the ingredients given to a fine paste.
  • Set instant pot mode to saute.
  • Heat oil in a instant pot. Add in bay leaf, cardamom and let them sizzle.
  • Add in onions and saute till golden.
  • Add in chicken and saute for 5 to 10 mins.
  • Add in rice, salt and water and mix well.
  • Now set the mode to cooking rice mode and cover and cook.
  • Once it is done. Leave it for 10 mins. Now release the vent.
  • Open the instant pot and mix the rice gently.
  • Serve.
