Arisi Paruppu Sadam Recipe

Ingredients

  • Rice - 1 cup
  • Dal - ½ cup i used masoor dal
  • Oil - 2 tblspn
  • Ghee - 1 tblspn
  • Mustard Seeds / Kaduku - 1 tsp
  • Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam - 1 tsp
  • Dry Red chillies - 2 broken
  • Asafoetida / Hing / Kaya Podi - ¼ tsp
  • Curry leaves a handful
  • Onion - 1 large chopped
  • Garlic - 10 peeled
  • Tomato - 1 chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • Turmeric Powder/ Manjal Podi - 1 tsp
  • Spinach - 3 cups chopped
  • Water - 3.5 to 4 cups
  • Coriander leaves a handful finely chopped

Instructions

  • Wash and soak rice and dal for 30 mins.
  • Heat oil in a pressure cooker, add mustard, cumin, dry red chilli, asafoetida and curry leaves.
  • Add in onions, garlic and saute for 2 mins.
  • Add in tomatoes and mix well,
  • Add in salt and turmeric and mix well.
  • Add spinach and mix well.
  • Add drained rice and dal, along with water.
  • Bring it to a boil and cook for 3 whistle and simmer and cook for 5 mins. Turn off the heat and let the steam go by itself.
  • Add coriander leaves and ghee and mix well.
  • Serve.
