    Arisi Paruppu Sadam Recipe

    This is a healthy main dish for lunch. It has dal, rice and spinach in them and taste really delicious with some pickle and papad. I love it hot with a drizzle of ghee over it. YUM.

    How to Make Arisi Paruppu Sadham

    • Wash and soak rice and dal for 30 mins.
    • Heat oil in a pressure cooker, add mustard, cumin, dry red chilli, asafoetida and curry leaves.
    • in goes onions, garlic and saute for 2 mins.
    • Add in tomatoes and mix well,
    • salt and turmeric and mix well.
    • Add spinach and mix well.
    • Add drained rice and dal, along with water.
    • Bring it to a boil and cook for 3 whistle and simmer and cook for 5 mins. Turn off the heat and let the steam go by itself.
    • Add coriander leaves and ghee and mix well.
    • Serve.

    Ingredients
      

    • Rice - 1 cup
    • Dal - ½ cup i used masoor dal
    • Oil - 2 tblspn
    • Ghee - 1 tblspn
    • Mustard Seeds / Kaduku - 1 tsp
    • Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam - 1 tsp
    • Dry Red chillies - 2 broken
    • Asafoetida / Hing / Kaya Podi - ¼ tsp
    • Curry leaves a handful
    • Onion - 1 large chopped
    • Garlic - 10 peeled
    • Tomato - 1 chopped
    • Salt to taste
    • Turmeric Powder/ Manjal Podi - 1 tsp
    • Spinach - 3 cups chopped
    • Water - 3.5 to 4 cups
    • Coriander leaves a handful finely chopped

    Instructions

    prepare your other ingredients
    heat oil or ghee in a pressure cooker
    add mustard, cumin and dry red chillies
    good amount of asafoetida
    add turmeric powder
    add lots of curry leaves
    onions and garlic
    saute for couple of mins
    add tomatoes
    mix well
    add salt and turmeric powder
    mix well
    add in some spinach
    mix well
    add the drained rice and dal
    add water
    bring it to a boil
    cook till done
    add ghee and coriander leaves
    mix well
    Serve

        I used arai keerai. You can use any spinach.

      This is a nutritious lunchtime main meal. They taste pretty good with some pickle and papad and include dal, rice, and spinach. I like eating it hot with ghee drizzled on top. YUM.

      The spices you soak in rice are very dosed. When cooking, I also often add aromatic spices to help them have a richer flavor.
