Ingredients

  • ½ kg Mutton
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp Turmeric Powder / Manjal Podi
  • ¾ cup + ¾ cup grated Fresh Coconut
  • Lemon Juice to taste
  • Coriander leaves a handful finely chopped
  • For Masala:
  • 3 tbsp Poppy Seeds / Kasa Kasa / Khus Khus
  • 10 to 12 Dry Red Chillies
  • 2 tbsp Coriander Seeds / Mullu Malli
  • 1.5 tbsp Fennel Seeds / Sombu / Saunf
  • 2 tsp Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam
  • 4 cm Ginger peeled and chopped
  • 10 cloves Garlic
  • For Seasoning:
  • ¼ cup Coconut Oil
  • 1 stick Cinnamon / Pattai
  • 6 crushed Cardamom / yelakai
  • 6 Cloves
  • 1 Star Anise / Anasipu
  • 1 large Onion sliced thinly

Instructions

  • First grind all the ingredients given for masala to a smooth paste. Set aside.
  • Now grind ¾ cup of coconut to a fine paste and extract thick milk from it.
  • Grind other ¾ cup of coconut to a fine paste and mix it with the masala made.
  • Now take mutton in a pressure cooker, add in the masala, coconut milk, salt and turmeric. Mix well.
  • Cover and pressure cook for 10 whistle, simmer for 15 mins. Turn of the heat and let the steam escape all by itself.
  • Now heat oil in a pan, add in whole spices and let them splatter. Add in onions and cook till golden. Pour this into the curry and simmer till oil separates.
  • Now add in coriander leaves and lemon juice and mix well.
  • Serve.
