Walnut Kunafa Rolls also known as Walnut kataifi rolls or rolled baklava is a popular Middle eastern sweet. Shredded filo pastry is stuffed with cinnamon sugar crushed walnuts and rolled tight into bite size rolls. Butter is brushed liberally over these rolls and baked until golden, once it gets a sugar syrup drizzle, this unique dessert comes to life.
Pre preparation - Preheat oven to 180 degree C (360 degree F). Grease a baking dish with butter and set aside.
Make Filling - Take crushed walnuts in a bowl, add in sugar and ground cinnamon and mix well.
Shaping Rolls - Take some kunafa pastry, place it vertical and horizontal. Brush it generously with melted butter over the pastry. Top with some crushed walnuts. Roll it tight. Place it on the buttered baking dish. Brush top generously with butter.
Baking Rolls - Place it into the oven. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes. When the rolls are baked, make the syrup.
Make syrup - Take sugar, water in a sauce pan and bring it to a full boil. Boil for 3 to 4 minutes until it gets slightly syrupy. Take it off the heat, add in rose and orange water and mix well. Remove it off heat and allow it to cool for 5 minutes.
Assembling - Once the rolls are baked, remove from oven and pour the syrup over the rolls. Let it set for 5 minutes. Serve hot.
