Ingredients

  • ½ cup Yellow Split Moong Dal / Pasi Paruppu
  • 1 tbsp Ginger finely chopped
  • 2 Green Chillies chopped
  • 1 medium Tomatoes chopped finely
  • 1 tsp Turmeric Powder / Manjal Podi
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 cups Water
  • Coriander Leaves a handful finely chopped
  • For Tadka:
  • 2 tbsp Ghee
  • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam
  • ¼ tsp Asafoetida / Hing / Kaya Podi
  • 1 medium Onion chopped finely
  • 3 cloves Garlic chopped finely
  • ½ tsp Chilli Powder

Instructions

  • Wash moong dal well. Add it to a pot, cover with water. Add in ginger, tomatoes, turmeric green chillies and mix well. Bring this to a boil, cover with a lid and simmer till the dal is cooked.
  • Now add in salt and mix well.
  • Heat ghee in a pan, add in cumin seeds, onions and garlic. Saute till golden.,
  • Add in asafoetida and mix well.
  • Add in chilli powder and mix well.
  • Pour this into the dal and mix well.
  • Add in coriander leaves and mix well.
  • Serve hot.
