    Dal Tadka / Tadka dal, they are nothing but just cooked dal seasoned with some herbs and spices. Normally dals are pretty bland, but when they get  exotic touch of this tadka / tempering or seasoning, they taste fantastic. Specially this recipe is so easy to make and it is simple and very tasty.

    Preparation Time : 5 mins
    Cooking Time : 25 to 30 mins
    Serves : 4


    Ingredients:

    Yellow Split Moong Dal / Pasi Paruppu - ½ cup
    Ginger - 1 tblspn finely chopped
    Green Chillies - 2 chopped
    Tomatoes - 1 medium size chopped finely
    Turmeric Powder / Manjal Podi - 1 tsp
    Salt to taste
    Water - 2 cups
    Coriander Leaves a handful finely chopped


    For Tadka:
    Ghee - 2 tblspn
    Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam - 1 tsp
    Asafoetida / Hing / Kaya Podi - ¼ tsp
    Onion - 1 medium size chopped finely
    Garlic - 3 fat cloves chopped finely
    Chilli Powder - ½ tsp


    Method:

    Wash moong dal well. Add it to a pot, cover with water. Add in ginger, tomatoes, turmeric green chillies and mix well. Bring this to a boil, cover with a lid and simmer till the dal is cooked.

    Now add in salt and mix well.

    Heat ghee in a pan, add in cumin seeds, onions and garlic. Saute till golden.,

    Add in asafoetida and mix well.

    Add in chilli powder and mix well.

    Pour this into the dal and mix well.

    Add in coriander leaves and mix well.

    Serve hot.

    bring this whole thing to a good boil

    now the dal is completely cooked

    you can taste and see

    mix that well

    Now lets go to the master touch for this entire dish which is the tadka part..
    Heat ghee in a pan, add in cumin seeds

    add in chopped garlic and onions

    add in some asafoetida

    keep cooking

    at a point the onions will turn golden
    Pin
    now add in chilli powder

    mix well

    pour that in the dal
    Pin
    mix well..If you have some coriander leaves on hand,
    add a handful of them in, i ran out of them so didn't add them.
