Homemade butter popcorn is a classic snack that brings the movie theatre experience right at your home. It is made with four simple ingredients like popcorn kernels, salt, oil and butter and is so easy to prepare. The freshly popped corn is coated with melted butter and with a hint of salt that creates that perfect balance of taste and texture.
Heat oil in a heavy bottom pot which has a tight fitting lid. Add in 3 popcorn kernels and cover it. Heat on medium high heat and let it heat until you hear popping sound. Let all the 3 kernels pop, this indicates that the oil is at the right temperature. Now remove the popper kernels using a slotted spoon and set aside.
Now add remaining corn kernels in the same oil, mix it once and cover the pot with a lid. Place the heat on medium high heat. You will hear the popcorn beginning to pop after few seconds. Shake the pan in between, you can crack open the lid slightly so the steam can escape. This way the popcorn stays crispy.
Allow all the popcorn kernels to pop. As you hear the popping sound subsiding, you can take it off the heat.
Now to make the flavouring. Take salted butter and salt in a large pan and melt it on very low heat until it melts. Turn off the heat. Now add the popped popcorn into the pan, cover with lid and shake it vigourosly so the butter coats the popcorn.
Thats it butter popcorn is ready. Allow it to cool and enjoy.
