Easy Chocolate Cake Recipe (Single Layer, Beginner Friendly)

Everyone should have a simple and easy chocolate cake recipe in our repitore. The recipe for this cake can't get any simpler. It uses basic pantry ingredients like eggs, sugar, oil, cocoa, flour, raising agent, milk. The recipe is simple and very straight forward, also it makes a single-layer cake with out any special equipments. Enjoy this cake with a cup of milk, tea or coffee.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 large Egg
  • ¾ cup Granulated Sugar 150 grams
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • cup Sunflower Oil or Melted Butter 80 ml
  • ½ cup Full Fat Milk 120 ml
  • ¾ cup All Purpose Flour 90 grams
  • ¼ cup Unsweetened Cocoa Powder 25 grams
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • ½ cup Chocolate Chips optional

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 180 degree C (360 degree F). Line the base of 8 inch round cake pan with parchment paper. Grease the sides of the cake pan with some oil or butter. Set aside.
  • Take egg, sugar and vanilla in a bowl and use a hand whisk to whip this till fluffy. It will take around 2 to 3 minutes. Add in milk, oil and whisk well to form a smooth mixture.
  • Sieve over flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and fold gently to combine well to a smooth mixture.
  • Spoon the batter in the prepared cake pan. Sprinkle top with chocolate chips or nuts like pecans. Place the tray in to the oven and bake for 30 to 35 mins until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Remove the cake pan from oven and allow it to cool down for 10 minutes.
  • Invert it over a plate, dust with icing sugar or decorate with any frosting of choice. cut into pieces and Serve.
  • If you are baking this cake in advance. Let the cake come to room temperature, wrap in plastic wrap and store in freezer.
