Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup Split Yellow Moong Dal
  • 1 Green Chilli chopped finely
  • 2 tablespoon Coriander Leaves + for garnishing finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Garlic finely chopped
  • 1 sprig Curry leaves
  • 1 tablespoon Tamarind Pulp or to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Chilli powder
  • Salt to taste

For Tempering / Seasoning:

  • 1 tablespoon Ghee
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard Seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • 1 Dry Red Chilli
  • 1 sprig Curry leaves

Instructions
 

  • Wash moong dal in lots of water untill all starch goes away from it. Let it soak for 15 mins.
  • Drain it and put it in a kadai. Add 4 cups of water, turmeric, green chilli, garlic, ginger, curry leaves, coriander leaves, chilli powder and mix well.
  • Bring this to a boil and let it simmer for 20 – 25 mins untill completely cooked and soft.
  • Now add tamarind, salt and mix well. Let it simmer for 5 mins.
  • Make seasoning by heating oil. Add mustard and cumin seeds and let it crackle. Add dry red chilli and curry leaves and mix well.
  • Pour this seasoning over the dal and mix well.
  • Garnish with lots of coriander leaves and mix well.
  • Serve this with rice..
