Hope you had a awesome new year celebration. We celebrated this new year with a complete vegetarian feast…I made tomato kulambu, rasam, khatti dal, tawa baigan, valakai poriyal along with rice and papad..And lets not forget the desert, I made dal payasam with lots of cashews and raisans in it..And the meal was a total hit..I took pictures of everything and will post it soon one by one..

    Pin
So I am starting with this simple hyderabadi dal which is so easy to make but delicious and healthy to eat..There are lots of flavourings going around this dish like garlic, ginger, curry leaves and all yummy stuffs..This dal gets its life by the seasoning which we put in last, try to make the seasoning with ghee which gives a awesome flavour to it..

So without any more delay off you go to the recipe..

    Preparation Time : 15 mins
    Cooking Time : 40 to 45 mins
    Serves : 4 to 5

    Ingrediants:

Split Yellow Moong Dal / Pasi Paruppu – 1 cup
Green Chilli – 1 chopped finely
Coriander Leaves  / Cilantro – 2 tblspn + for garnishing finely chopped
Ginger – 1 tblspn finely chopped
    Garlic -1 tblspn finely chopped
    Curry leaves -1 spring
Tamarind Paste –  1 tblspn or to taste
    Turmeric Powder -1 tsp
    Chilli powder -1 tsp
    Salt to taste

    For Tempering / Seasoning:
Oil or Ghee – 1 tblspn
Mustard Seeds / Kaduku -1 tsp
Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam -1 tsp
    Dry Red Chilli – 1
    Curry leaves – 1 spring

    Method:

Wash moong dal in lots of water untill all starch goes away from it. Let it soak for 15 mins.

Drain it and put it in a kadai. Add 4 cups of water, turmeric, green chilli, garlic, ginger, curry leaves, coriander leaves, chilli powder and mix well.

Bring this to a boil and let it simmer for 20 – 25 mins untill completely cooked and soft.

Now add tamarind, salt and mix well. Let it simmer for 5 mins.

Make seasoning by heating oil. Add mustard and cumin seeds and let it crackle. Add dry red chilli and curry leaves and mix well.

Pour this seasoning over the dal and mix well.

Garnish with lots of coriander leaves and mix well.

    Serve this with rice..
