Onion Curry | Onion Curry for Chapathi

Simple Onion Curry which has minimum masala and fresh flavours. This pairs beautiful with rice or roti.

Equipment

  • Cooking pot

Ingredients

  • 3 large Onions sliced thinly
  • 5 no Green Chillies sliced
  • 3 tablespoon Oil
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger Garlic Paste
  • 2 no Tomato chopped finely
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt

For Grinding

  • ½ cup Coconut grated
  • 1 teaspoon Fennel seeds

Instructions

  • Grind coconut and fennel seeds to a smooth paste.
  • Heat oil in a kadai. Add in onions and saute till it gets soft. Add in chillies and turmeric powder along with salt. Saute them for few mins. Add in ginger garlic paste and mix well. Add tomatoes and cook that till mushy.
  • Add in coconut masala and mix well. Simmer for 2 mins.
  • Serve with roti or rice.

Notes

  • Saute the onions till soft, this adds nice sweetness to your curry.
  • If you don't have tomatoes, skip tomatoes. Instead add little lemon juice in the end.
  • You can add very little roasted gram dal or cashews or any nuts along with coconut when grinding. This adds thickness to the curry.
  • This curry can be served with chapati, roti, paratha or phulka.
  • You can serve with appam or idiyappam.
