Potato au Gratin is one of the classic French dishes that look fancy but is so easy to make at home. It is made with simple ingredients like potato, milk, cream, butter and seasonings, which will turn into a super rich, creamy. This creamy potato is a great side dish to make for Christmas, Thanksgiving and pairs perfectly with grilled meats, vegetables or bread.
Grease a baking pan with butter. Preheat oven to 250 degree C (500 degree F).
Wash and peel potatoes. Slice the potatoes into thin slices using a mandoline slicer. Immerse the potatoes in cold water to prevent them from browning. Once all potatoes are slices, strain the potatoes through a colander.
Take potatoes, cream, milk, salt, pepper and garlic in sauce pan. Make sure the potatoes are completely immersed in the cream and milk mixture. Bring this whole mix to a full boil. Reduce the heat to low and cook for 5 to 6 mins till potatoes are fork tender.
Once the potatoes are cooked, Now transfer this whole thing in buttered baking pan and pop it in oven and bake for 25 to 30 mins till golden, bubbly and crispy on top.
Once baked remove the pan from oven, let it rest for 15 minutes for the potatoes to set. Serve.
