    Potato Au Gratin Ingredients

Potato - Potatoes are the main ingredient of this recipe. Starchy potatoes like russet, yukon gold or king edward works best because they soak up the flavours well.

Cream - Use full fat cream to make sauce rich, smooth and indulgent. If you prefer, you can also swap with coconut cream.

Milk - Milk balances the richness of the cream and lightens the base without being too heavy. It also helps to cook the potatoes evenly. For a vegan alternative, use almond milk, soy milk or oat milk.

Garlic - Garlic adds a nice flavour to the base without overpowering. You can also add garlic powder for a subtle taste.

Salt and pepper - Both are used to season the potatoes and enhance the overall flavours. Adjust it according to your taste.

Butter - Be generous with butter as they add richness to the sauce and prevent the potatoes from sticking to the pan.

Optional : Grated cheese like cheddar, parmesan can be added for a cheesy top. And fresh herbs like thyme, rosemary can be added for flavour.

    Step by Step Pictures

1)Take your potatoes. Give a good scrub and wash and pat them dry.

2)Peel off the skin using a peeler. You can use knife to peel off the skin.

8)Add in the sliced potatoes into this mixture. Mix it really well. Press it gently so the potatoes are immersed into the cream mixture.

9)Place on stove and cook on medium heat. You have to cook this until the potatoes are tender. it will take around 6 to 7 minutes.

    10)Now the potatoes are cooked.

11)Grease a baking tray with butter.

12)Pour the cooked potatoes along with the cream and milk mixture into the baking dish.

    13)Spoon some butter on top.

14)Bake until it is golden, bubbly and cooked.

15)Let the potatoes rest for atleast 15 minutes before serving. So the potatoes can set.

    16)Enjoy.

    Expert Tips
