This ragi upma also known as finger millet upma is made with ragi flour, whole spices, onions, chillies, carrots, coconut. It is fast to make, healthy, nutritious and makes a filling iron rich breakfast.

Ingredients

For Ragi Flour Mixture

  • 1 cup Ragi Flour (Finger Millet Flour)
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • ½ cup Water or as needed

For Tempering

  • 1 tablespoon Oil
  • ½ teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Split Urad Dal
  • 1 no Dry Red Chillies
  • 1 sprig Curry leaves

Vegetables

  • 1 medium Onion peeled and chopped finely
  • 1 no Green Chillies chopped finely
  • 1 medium Carrot chopped finely
  • ¼ cup Fresh Coconut grated

Instructions
 

  • Take ragi flour, salt in a bowl. Pour in water little at a time and mix it with your hands till it forms a coarse crumb like mixture.
  • Now scoop this into small portions and place on an idli steamer and steam cook for 8 to 10 minutes. Once steamed, remove from the steamer and set aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan and allow it to get hot. Add in mustard, urad dal, dry red chillies, green chillies, curry leaves and let them sizzle in the hot oil.
  • Add in onions, carrots, salt and saute for 2 minutes. Let the onions and carrots gets cooked.
  • Now add in the steamed ragi flour and coconut and toss it with the vegetables. Stir fry for couple of minutes.
  • Take it off the heat and serve hot with chutney or sugar.
