Ingredients
  

  • 1 teaspoon Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard Seeds / Kaduku
  • ½ teaspoon Fenugreek Seeds / Vendayam / Methi
  • Curry leaves a sprig
  • 2 teaspoon or to taste Chilli Powder
  • 2 tablespoon tblspn Coriander Powder / Malli Podi
  • 1 large Brinjal sliced into long slices
  • 500 grams Fish Pieces i used sardine
  • 2 to 3 tablespoon Tamarind Pulp or to taste
  • Water as needed
  • For Masala:
  • 2 teaspoon Oil
  • 25 to 30 Shallots / Sambar Onion / Chinna Ulli peeled
  • 1 Onion large sliced
  • Curry leaves a big handful
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric Powder / Manjal Podi
  • Salt to taste

Instructions
 

  • Heat oil in a pan, add in shallots, onion, curry leaves, salt and turmeric powder and saute for 8 to 10 mins till it is translucent and light golden.
  • Now take it in a blender and make it into a fine puree.
  • Heat oil in a kadai. Add in fenugreek and mustard seeds. Add in curry leaves and saute for a min.
  • Add in the pureed masala and cook till oil separates from it.
  • Add in chilli and coriander powder and mix well.
  • Now add in brinjal and toss well. Add in water and tamarind pulp, mix well. Cook till brinjal is cooked.
  • Now add in the fish pieces and cook till the fish is done.
  • Serve with rice.
