Homemade tomato sauce can be made with just few ingredients and spices. In this blog post, learn how to make tomato ketchup with step by step pictures.
Wash and chop tomatoes. Take them in a blender and puree till smooth. You can strain the tomato puree through a large hole strainer to remove the seeds.
Take the tomato puree in a sauce pan. Add in all the ingredients and mix well. Taste and adjust the seasoning. Once it comes to a full boil, reduce the flame to low, cook on low heat (simmer) for 15 to 20 minutes. Keep mixing often.
Now the sauce must have got thick and glossy. Cool this completely and store in an air tight bottle in fridge. Stays good for 10 to 15 days.
Notes
Use fresh not too sour tomatoes for making tomato ketchup.
You can taste and adjust the sugar depending on your preference. Some tomatoes need more sugar than usual.
Vinegar helps with preserving the ketchup. You can use white vinegar or apple cider vinegar.
Red chilli powder can be increased if you prefer it spicy.
Instead of using fresh tomatoes, you can use store bought tomato puree.
