Tomato Kurma | Thakkali Kurma Recipe
Tomato kurma or Thakkali kurma is a popular side dish for appam, idli, dosa or idiyappam. This taste delicious and is quite easy to make.

- Oil - 1 tblspn
- Mustard Seeds / Kaduku - 1 tsp
- Urad dal / Ulundu Paruppu - 1 tsp
- Curry leaves a sprig
- Onion - 1 large sliced thinly
- Green Chillies - 1 slit
- Tomatoes - 3 chopped finely
- Salt to taste
- Sugar - 1 tsp
- Chilli Powder - 1 tsp
- Garam Masala Powder - 1 tsp
- Turmeric Powder - 1 tsp
- For Grinding:
- Coconut - ½ cup grated
- Poppy Seeds / Khus Khus / Kasa Kasa - 1 tblspn
- Fennel Seeds / Sombu / Saunf - 1 tsp
- Cinnamon / Pattai - 3 cm piece
Take all grinding ingredients in a blender and puree till smooth. Set aside.
Now heat oil in a pan, add mustard and urad dal. Add curry leaves and let them sizzle.
Add in onions and green chillies. Add some salt and turmeric and mix well. Cook till it gets soft.
Add in tomatoes and cook till it gets mushy.
Add in sugar and spice powders and mix well.
Add in water and bring it to a boil.
Add the ground masala and simmer for few mins.
Serve.
