    Tomato Kurma Recipe

    Tomatoes are in season right now, it is very very cheap here. So i decided to use it and make so many recipes as possible. I made jams, juices and pickles. I also made some gravy dishes too. This is a simple kurma made using tomatoes and it is super easy to make and taste delicious with idiyappam, appam or any tiffin items.

    Tomato Kurma Preparation

    • Take all grinding ingredients in a blender and puree till smooth. Set aside.
    • Now heat oil in a pan, add mustard and urad dal. Add curry leaves and let them sizzle.
    • Add in onions and green chillies. some salt and turmeric and mix well. Cook till it gets soft.
    • Add in tomatoes and cook till it gets mushy.
    • Add in sugar and spice powders and mix well.
    • Pour water and bring it to a boil.
    • Add the ground masala and simmer for few mins.
    • Serve.

    Ingredients
      

    • Oil - 1 tblspn
    • Mustard Seeds / Kaduku - 1 tsp
    • Urad dal / Ulundu Paruppu - 1 tsp
    • Curry leaves a sprig
    • Onion - 1 large sliced thinly
    • Green Chillies - 1 slit
    • Tomatoes - 3 chopped finely
    • Salt to taste
    • Sugar - 1 tsp
    • Chilli Powder - 1 tsp
    • Garam Masala Powder - 1 tsp
    • Turmeric Powder - 1 tsp
    • For Grinding:
    • Coconut - ½ cup grated
    • Poppy Seeds / Khus Khus / Kasa Kasa - 1 tblspn
    • Fennel Seeds / Sombu / Saunf - 1 tsp
    • Cinnamon / Pattai - 3 cm piece

    Instructions
     

    • Take all grinding ingredients in a blender and puree till smooth. Set aside.

    • Add in onions and green chillies. Add some salt and turmeric and mix well. Cook till it gets soft.
    • Add in tomatoes and cook till it gets mushy.

    • Add in water and bring it to a boil.

    • Serve.
